However, when I saw how much information was in here for sewing, crochet, embroidery, knitting, netting, lace making, point lace, etc, etc ,etc , I was exceedingly pleased to have such a wealth of information available - all in the same book!
I'll definitely be getting a lot of use out of this book! I hope they put it back into print and perhaps with updated photos: I bought a used copy - it's in great shape: This is interesting, because they have reprinted how the patterns appeared in the 's.

It is everything that I expected. I'm a reenactor and historian, and I wasn't aware that this volume had been published. It was published One of my top needlework references. It was published in the mid 's and you do have to learn to read it because it is not the same as modern needlework books.
But it is a treasure trove of designs and techniques as well as showing the fashions of the time.
Of great interest to anyone interested in Victorian needlework. Contains patterns and instructions for all kinds of lace, crochet, knitting, wool work, embroidery, monograms, etc. I am mostly interested in embroidery; that section was not very inspiring in this book, so I presented it to a lacemaker, who was wild for it. The quality of this reprint is first rate; period illustrations don't always come out well but these did.

Knitter beware, most of the knitting patterns seem to have been written by someone with too much to drink. Beeton at all, she passed before it was even written and her husband sold her name to the company that wrote this one.

This pit was used during the construction of the Orbost to Bairnsdale Railway line. Significance This item is associated with the history of the Orbost-Bairnsdale railway line and therefore reflects the role that the rail line played in the social and economic history of Orbost.
The Bairnsdale-Orbost railway was opened in to serve the agricultural and timber industry. Because of the decline in traffic and heavy operating costs, the line was finally closed in August, On the side of the carriage is "Mt No. Historical information This is a photograph of a motor passenger train driven for many years by Fred Christmas.
Significance This photograph is associated with the Orbost - Bairnsdale railway. There are several men on top of the wagons, seated and standing. There are horse drawn carts behind a wooden fence and several men standing on the front verandah with one man at a top window. On the back of this postcard is a hand-written letter.
Historical information The photographs show the Butter Factory at Orbost in and The postcard is addressed to Miss N. Nixon of Picnic Point Bairnsdale. The Orbost Butter and Produce Co. Ltd was registered on June 1st and was an important source of income to the Orbost district. The first shipment in about to England went rank and was only good for axle grease on wagons and carts.
The milk was brought to the factory by horse and dray. Most people would take the whey home for their pigs,which were abundant on the farms in the Orbost district.
